You can get a jump start from another car or a battery charger\/booster, but if using a battery charger that does not have booster capability it may take a few hours before the dead battery holds enough of a charge to start your car, if it can hold a charge at all. If you do not have a battery booster, then getting a jump start from another vehicle is the fastest and most efficient way to start a car with a dead battery. All you need to do is connect your dead battery to another battery or other charging source with a set of jumper cables (also known as booster cables), and you can drive your car to the garage to buy a new battery. Jump starting a car should be a one-time effort, as there is unnecessary strain put on the electronics and computer chips that are prevalent in today\u2019s automobiles when jump starting dead batteries. As well, once a car battery has died it will not carry a full charge again, so once the car is successfully jump-started you should immediately drive to your favourite garage (or the nearest one) and buy a new battery for your car. When purchasing a new battery the garage will more often than not install it for free, including cleaning the battery posts (replacing them if necessary) and applying a non-corrosive protectant to the posts. The new battery will be checked for integrity and come with a lifetime replacement warranty for the life of your car (or as long as you own it, as warranties are not transferrable). For those of you who are stuck in a wind-swept parking lot in the boondocks, or otherwise find yourself trying to start a car and all you get is a low clicking sound (or no sound at all), and the radio and lights do not come on when you turn the key in the ignition, then you most likely have a dead battery. You can still drive your car with a dead battery; all you need to do is get a jump start and you can drive your car to your favourite garage to buy a new battery (and don\u2019t forget to ask for one with a lifetime replacement warranty). For those a little more on the mechanically inclined side, ask someone nearby, call a friend or a taxi (some taxis will not provide jump starts, so ask the dispatcher for one that will) to come and give you a jump start.
